De-Bunked Myths

OFFLINE
Totay was a very successful day - even for the mtyh busters.  Five myths were debunked in the space of 5 hours...

The first was that Edward's GPS gets you lost.  Well without it we wouldn't have found Sackville ferry nor would we have known that we were rining on a non existant road (believe me it wasnt a road).  There is no road between Sackville and St Albans -- I am being generous describing it as a goat track.  The GPS was perfectly correct.

Which brings me to the  second myth.  River Road doesnt start at Sackville Vince - It actually starts with a poorly marked intersaction about 3Km towards the ferry from Sackville North -- if you can recognize that metropolitian berg.  So here we were riding what could be loosly described as sport touring motorcycles on a track that would be best suited for 4-WD, Enduro or Trail motorcycles.  And there was a lot of traffic as well -- thankfully none.

And that dismisses Myth three.  Honda road motorcycles can't be taken cross country.  Well, the back waltzes about like a ship without a rudder in a Bass Straight storm but it still goes.  Thanks Mr Honda San. Clutch and back brake never got usd so much and probably never will again.  But that was just the start of it - the first 21 Km.  We had another 37 Km of gravel road - yes this was a road, and it had quite a bit of traffic including two guys on Enduro bikes with quisical looks as we went past in the opposite direction.

Which raises Myth four.  The road between St Albans and Bucketty is NOT sealed. I guess if you went via Wisemans and Central Mangrove it would be but that is a long detour Kev.  I can assure you that the gravel starts even before that delightful establishment called The Settlers Arms.  That is one place that hasnt changed since it was built with local limestone in the mid 1800's.  It would be worth a visit for lunch some day -- but in a car I would recommend.

Last Myth.  No, if you ride with Edward you dont get left behind.  We were in visual contact for just about the whole way.  Was a good ride Edward even if I havnt ridden so far on dirt since my dirt bike days.  I dont think it will be a group ride route though.
